PracticeMatch, an M3 company, is hiring a Head of Engineering to lead its team through a major technology modernization effort. PracticeMatch is the industry leader in physician and resident/fellow data and services for in-house physician staffing professionals, offering sourcing, telemarketing, email marketing, and direct marketing solutions built on its own proprietary databases.

About M3 and PracticeMatch

M3 is a global leader in healthcare digital solutions, working across healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and charitable sectors — covering market research, medical education, promotional programs, clinical development, job recruitment, and clinic appointment services. Founded in 2000 with startup capital from Sony, M3 has grown more than 20% year-over-year for 15 straight years, topping $1 billion in annual revenue, and has been named to Fortune’s Future 50 list and Forbes’ Global 2000. In 2020, M3 pledged one billion yen toward COVID-19 relief through its Stop COVID-19 Fund.

What You’ll Do

  • Technology Strategy: Define and drive a multi-year roadmap to modernize PracticeMatch’s legacy platform, prioritizing migrations and rewrites by business value, risk, and continuity, while keeping product stability and customer commitments intact throughout.
  • Partner with product and business leadership to keep engineering priorities aligned with PracticeMatch’s competitive strategy and customer outcomes, and recommend modern technology choices (languages, frameworks, cloud infrastructure, data platforms) for long-term scalability.
  • Champion responsible adoption of agentic AI across the full engineering lifecycle — planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and production — building the review discipline and repository context that make AI-assisted work trustworthy.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and grow the PracticeMatch engineering team (direct and indirect reports across software engineering and QA), building a culture around code quality, security, documentation, peer review, and test automation.
  • Recruit and retain strong engineering talent, build real career paths, run regular performance conversations, give direct and constructive feedback, and foster a team where people feel safe raising concerns and learning from mistakes.
  • Delivery: Own engineering delivery end to end — projects scoped well, executed reliably, and shipped to a standard the team can stand behind.
  • Maintain and improve engineering systems (CI/CD, automated testing, deployment infrastructure, quality gates, observability) so the team can ship with confidence, and lead root-cause analysis on complex production incidents.
  • Build out the repository context, conventions, and executable plans that make agentic coding tools like Claude Code and Codex reliable in production, and identify work that can safely move to AI-assisted or automated workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary technology partner to PracticeMatch’s business and product leadership, translating between technical and business language in both directions.
  • Collaborate with M3 USA’s broader tech leadership and other business-unit CTOs on shared infrastructure and standards, and communicate architecture decisions and engineering health clearly to senior leadership, including the M3 USA CEO and CHRO.
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning, org design, compensation benchmarking, and talent strategy for the engineering team.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Active engagement with M3 USA’s AI training and upskilling programs, with demonstrated adoption of agentic coding tools.
  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including meaningful time in a hands-on technical role.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including directly managing engineering teams.
  • A track record leading legacy system modernization or technology platform migrations.
  • Experience in a SaaS, data, or platform product environment; healthcare tech or physician-recruiting experience is a plus.
  • Expert-level understanding of web application architecture, and strong working knowledge of modern web tech (React or similar, RESTful APIs, cloud infrastructure, containerization).
  • Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, automated test frameworks, and observability systems.
  • Practical knowledge of application security, data privacy, and compliance in web products.
  • Working knowledge of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) and the practices — repository context, quality gates, review discipline — that make them reliable in production engineering.
  • A proven ability to recruit, manage, and grow engineering talent at every level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable presenting technical information to executive, business, and engineering audiences.
  • Familiarity with the physician recruiting or healthcare data domain is a plus.

Benefits

Health and dental coverage; life, accident, and disability insurance; a prescription plan; a Flexible Spending Account; a 401(k) plan with match; paid holidays and vacation; and sick and personal days.
