Geotab, a recognized leader in connected-vehicle technology and a certified Great Place to Work, is looking for a Senior Software Developer to join the team behind its telematics platform. The platform processes billions of data points daily from Geotab’s own hardware installed in millions of vehicles worldwide, and this role focuses on writing high-performance C# code that handles that data in real time.
About Geotab
Geotab’s open platform, along with its third-party Marketplace, lets fleet operators of any size plug vehicle data into their broader business systems. The company applies analytics and machine learning to that data to help customers cut fuel costs, improve driver safety, and stay on top of regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Take part in design discussions, capturing requirements and technical decisions along the way.
- Mentor junior developers and share knowledge across the wider team.
- Write secure, scalable code across multiple languages, primarily C#, JavaScript, and SQL.
- Review teammates’ code to catch bugs and logic errors and keep coding standards consistent.
- Dig into performance data, trace files, and call stacks to track down the root cause of tricky bugs.
- Help build prototypes, MVPs, and proofs of concept for new ideas.
- Support internal staff and resellers with technical questions, sometimes on an on-call basis, including verifying feature behavior directly in the code.
- Stay current on new languages, frameworks, and tools, and recommend adoption where it makes sense to team leads.
- Contribute to defining engineering best practices for the team.
- Write documentation that makes the codebase easier to maintain and reuse over time.
- Take responsibility for the functionality, scalability, and architecture quality of your assigned work.
- Rotate through a 24/7 on-call schedule alongside the rest of the team.
What You’ll Need
- 5-8 years building scalable software using object-oriented design.
- A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related area.
- Comfort across multiple general-purpose languages (C#, Java, Python), plus specific experience with Python, Google Compute Engine, and BigQuery.
- Solid database experience with SQL Server and Postgres, including advanced query and schema optimization (e.g., in MySQL).
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, and solid Git skills, including handling merge conflicts and branch management.
- Strong problem-solving and project-management skills, able to carry a project from initial scoping through to completion.
- A collaborative, detail-oriented approach with comfort using everyday tools like Google Suite.
