Sur
Description
Sur company is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for a remote position based in Croatia. This is an engineering-focused testing role centered on building the systems, infrastructure, and tools needed to test applications at large scale.
Rather than focusing on traditional manual QA, the role involves writing production-quality software and creating testing platforms that can evaluate application performance, reliability, and scalability under conditions similar to real-world production traffic.
You will work closely with platform engineers and the wider engineering team to identify scalability and reliability risks before new code or infrastructure changes reach production.
Key Job Information
- Position: Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
- Location: Croatia
- Work Policy: Remote
- Salary: $6,000 USD per month
- PTO: 15 days
- Holidays: Local or US holidays
- Primary Languages: TypeScript, Python, or similar
- Testing Focus: Load, performance, stress, synthetic, scalability, and reliability testing
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop scalable testing platforms, systems, and infrastructure that reproduce realistic production conditions.
- Build software and testing tools to evaluate performance, reliability, scalability, and infrastructure behavior under high traffic.
- Develop and maintain load, stress, performance, and synthetic testing capabilities for applications used by millions of people globally.
- Create testing environments and processes that help ensure new code and infrastructure can scale successfully in production.
- Write high-quality software in TypeScript, Python, or comparable programming languages.
- Create tests that uncover issues involving latency, bandwidth, application speed, infrastructure capacity, and resource usage.
- Integrate automated testing and quality checks into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
- Work with cloud-based applications and infrastructure using platforms such as AWS, Cloudflare, Google Cloud, or similar services.
- Use Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and Pulumi to create repeatable and scalable testing environments.
- Work with platform engineers to understand system architecture, production behavior, and infrastructure limitations.
- Analyze test results and production-like workloads to identify scalability risks before changes are exposed to real-world traffic.
- Help establish the technical standards, processes, and systems for a new engineering-focused testing function.
What You’ll Need
- Strong professional software engineering experience and the ability to independently design, develop, and maintain software systems.
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Python, or similar modern languages.
- Experience developing automated testing systems, engineering tools, testing infrastructure, or other software-based quality solutions.
- Hands-on experience with load, performance, stress, synthetic, or large-scale application testing.
- Experience working with applications or platforms serving millions of users or visitors, ideally at multi-million or tens-of-millions scale.
- Experience with cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure using AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, or comparable platforms.
- Strong knowledge of DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure, scalability, and modern software deployment practices.
- Experience integrating automated validation into CI/CD workflows.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of performance concepts including latency, bandwidth, throughput, scalability, reliability, and infrastructure optimization.
- Ability to investigate complex technical problems independently and develop solutions with limited supervision.
- Strong written and spoken English skills for communicating technical decisions and collaborating with a distributed engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting globally distributed applications with tens of millions of monthly visitors.
- Experience with high-traffic e-commerce platforms or other large consumer-facing applications.
- Experience working with custom or internally developed platforms rather than mainly testing third-party software.
- Experience optimizing applications or infrastructure where speed, latency, bandwidth, and infrastructure costs are important.
- Experience building testing infrastructure or frameworks from the ground up.
- Background in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, performance engineering, or infrastructure engineering.
- Experience working in fast-moving startup or lean engineering environments with significant individual ownership and autonomy.
About the Role
This position is designed for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems involving infrastructure, performance, reliability, and scalability.
The role will involve building testing capabilities from the ground up and creating realistic environments that can reproduce workloads that are difficult to simulate through conventional testing. You will have significant responsibility for designing solutions and helping establish the technical foundation of the testing function.
Benefits
- $6,000 USD monthly salary
- 15 days PTO
- Local or US holidays
