Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Description

Valsoft Corporation is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for a full-time remote position with Tag Software Group in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The role focuses on building automated testing coverage, reducing manual regression work, and improving the speed and reliability of the QA process.

You will work with a team of three software developers and one product manager, while also collaborating with QA professionals across other Scrum teams.

What You’ll Do

• Build and take ownership of a comprehensive automated testing suite using Cypress, beginning with regression testing.
• Convert as much of the existing manual QA and regression work as possible into automated tests.
• Use AI tools to help create, maintain, and analyze tests more efficiently.
• Identify additional opportunities where AI can improve the testing workflow.
• Maintain a test framework and CI test runs that are fast, reliable, and easy for developers to contribute to.
• Work with developers and the product manager to establish appropriate test coverage based on requirements before development begins.
• Execute automated tests and identify and document defects.
• Work directly with developers to investigate and resolve testing issues.
• Track and communicate test coverage, software quality, and test stability.
• Share useful testing methods and practices with QA teams working on other Scrum teams.

What You’ll Need

• Intermediate-level experience working as an SDET or in a similar test automation position.
• Practical experience creating and maintaining automated test suites with Cypress.
• Experience with Playwright or Selenium is also considered relevant if you can transition to Cypress.
• Strong programming skills using JavaScript or TypeScript.
• C# experience is an asset.
• Practical experience using AI tools as part of software development or testing workflows.
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks such as Jest, xUnit, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with orchestration and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, or Azure DevOps.
• Understanding of Agile Scrum practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to complete a criminal background check.
