About Tabbed

Tabbed is a dynamic company building a point-of-sale integrated mobile application shipped on both iOS and Android via React Native. As an early-stage engineering organization, the company is looking to formally establish its quality assurance practices from the ground up. Tabbed offers high visibility and real ownership, providing direct access to a supportive engineering team dedicated to technical growth and innovation in the payments and POS space.

About the Role

Tabbed is seeking a curious and self-motivated Junior QA Engineer to become the company’s first dedicated QA team member. Initially, you will take over manual testing duties currently handled by developers and product teams. Quickly, you will pivot to building the foundational automation infrastructure: constructing test fixtures in Node.js that simulate POS terminals and engineering automated UI/UX regression tests. You will have real influence over testing tools, measurement, and the overarching QA culture at the company.

What You’ll Do

You will execute manual tests across iOS and Android while simultaneously writing code to automate workflows and decouple testing from physical hardware.

  • Design and execute the company’s first formal manual test plans across iOS and Android for release candidates, new features, and bug fixes.
  • Translate user stories and product requirements into a highly organized, living library of reusable test cases.
  • Identify, record, and track software defects with precise reproduction steps, collaborating directly with the engineering team to verify resolutions.
  • Perform extensive exploratory testing to uncover UI differences, OS-version quirks, and edge cases.
  • Utilize TypeScript tooling and Node.js to inspect API traffic, read logs, and pinpoint the root causes of complex bugs.
  • Begin constructing automated UI and UX regression tests specifically tailored for a React Native application.
  • Engineer mock services and test fixtures in Node.js/TypeScript to simulate physical POS terminal behavior, eliminating reliance on hardware for testing cycles.
  • Establish essential QA baselines, including bug reporting standards, test documentation, and release checklists.
  • Participate actively in standups, project planning, and release readiness reviews.

What You’ll Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, OR equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on programming capability using Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript (internships, bootcamps, and personal projects are perfectly acceptable).
  • Familiarity with React and React Native paradigms (hooks, state, props, components) to understand UI rendering and common bug origins.
  • A solid grasp of the software development lifecycle and foundational QA concepts (smoke testing, regression, bug tracking).
  • A methodical, detail-oriented approach to debugging and problem-solving.
  • Exceptional self-motivation and comfort navigating ambiguity to figure out solutions independently.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to articulate quality concerns directly to product stakeholders and engineers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience utilizing mobile UI automation frameworks such as Appium, Maestro, or Detox.
  • Familiarity with React Native specific testing and tooling (Vitest, Jest, React Native Testing Library, Expo, Metro).
  • Experience testing on physical mobile devices as well as emulators/simulators (Android Studio, Xcode).
  • Experience building or interacting with WebSockets, REST APIs, or Node.js frameworks (Fastify, Express).
  • Background utilizing Git for version control and CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions or Bitrise.
  • Familiarity with test management (TestRail) and API tools (Postman).
  • A personal interest in point-of-sale systems, hardware integrations, or payments.

Benefits

  • $60,000 – $80,000 annual salary.
  • Location-agnostic scheduling allowing you to work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, vision, and dental coverage (including Blue Cross Blue Shield options and HSA-eligible plans).
  • Direct mentorship and support from the core engineering team to accelerate your technical growth.
