About ITW Welding (Miller)

Miller, backed by the vast resources of ITW, is a global leader in the welding and fabrication industry. Drawing on nearly a century of hardware dominance, the company is building a brand-new, ground-up software-as-a-service (SaaS) business specifically engineered for modern fabrication shop floors. Operating with the agility of a startup but the stability of a legacy enterprise, ITW Welding empowers its teams to make a massive impact on the operational success of the company while investing heavily in continuous improvement and innovation.

About the Role

ITW Welding is searching for a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, senior internal team tasked with defining how the organization ships, builds, and operates cloud software. You will take full ownership of feature delivery on Miller’s cloud SaaS platform, from refining initial product requirements all the way to executing code in production. You will also heavily influence the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices, review code from external development partners, and establish the modern engineering culture that will drive this new SaaS venture.

What You’ll Do

You will architect and build robust cloud services while actively mentoring peers and utilizing AI tools to accelerate development workflows.

  • Deconstruct ambiguous, high-level problems into clearly defined project workloads and execute them independently from end to end.
  • Engineer web applications, APIs, and cloud services using modern front-end frameworks alongside C#/.NET on Microsoft Azure.
  • Collaborate with product leaders to refine feature requirements, proposing streamlined alternatives to deliver value faster.
  • Interact directly with design partners, support teams, and customers to understand shop-floor usage, ensuring features are shipped with deep telemetry tracking.
  • Perform rigorous code and design reviews for contract development partners, utilizing data to address velocity and quality concerns.
  • Design comprehensive runbooks, alerting, and monitoring strategies for your codebase, actively participating in incident response and blameless postmortems.
  • Embed security and compliance controls (ISO 27001, SOC 2) into daily workflows while utilizing CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tooling (Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate coding, design, and documentation, critically reviewing generated outputs in accordance with ITW policies.
  • Test innovative ideas through rapid, time-boxed prototypes, making strict decisions on when to harden a prototype versus discarding it.
  • Share knowledge, pair program, and actively mentor other engineers on the team.

What You’ll Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Proven, hands-on experience engineering and operating cloud-hosted services or web applications in production environments (Azure strongly preferred).
  • High-level proficiency in a modern programming language, particularly C#/.NET, paired with REST APIs and relational databases.
  • Experience building and monitoring production systems alongside automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • A demonstrated capability to debug, critique, and improve code authored by others, including outsourced partners and AI generators.
  • Professional experience utilizing AI-assisted development tooling with a critical understanding of their practical limitations.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience at a SaaS product organization dealing with subscription models and multi-tenant architectures.
  • Proficiency with containerization (Kubernetes, Azure Container Apps, Docker) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep).
  • Familiarity working with or overseeing outsourced and contract development teams.
  • Knowledge of connected equipment, manufacturing/industrial data, or IoT integrations.
  • Experience heavily utilizing modern front-end frameworks such as Blazor, Angular, or React.
  • A background in embedding LLM-powered or AI features directly into product platforms.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery metrics like DORA, alongside SOC 2 or ISO 27001 secure development practices.
  • A genuine curiosity about the fabrication and welding industry.

Benefits

  • Generous 401(k) match plus an additional retirement contribution from the company.
  • 11 paid holidays, 5 sick days, and substantial vacation time.
  • Company-paid Life, AD&D, Short-Term, and Long-Term Disability insurance.
  • 4 weeks of fully paid parental leave and financial adoption reimbursement.
  • Robust tuition reimbursement for continued personal and professional development.
