About the Role
We are searching for a Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to establish and spearhead the quality assurance practice for Flow. In this foundational role, you will dictate the overarching test strategy, craft robust automation frameworks, and take a hands-on approach to investigating product performance. This is a unique opportunity to build a QA culture from the ground up, mentoring team members while directly impacting the reliability and success of a rapidly growing AI platform.
What You’ll Do
You will take total ownership of product quality, balancing deep technical automation with practical exploratory testing to guarantee a flawless user experience.
- Engineer and sustain automated testing frameworks for desktop platforms, mobile applications, backend APIs, and external integrations.
- Determine the optimal balance of unit, integration, and end-to-end test coverage.
- Partner closely with the engineering team to embed automated checks within CI/CD pipelines, creating reliable deployment gates.
- Perform extensive exploratory testing on real-world voice workflows, device permissions, and network fluctuations.
- Investigate functional bugs, accessibility barriers, and cross-application consistency issues.
- Evaluate telemetry, customer impact, and test results to provide definitive release recommendations.
- Collaborate with product, design, and support teams to translate requirements and past incidents into enhanced test coverage.
- Establish quality standards, coach QA personnel, and manage testing partners while actively contributing to hands-on testing.
What You’ll Need
- Extensive professional background as a quality engineer owning test architecture for complex software ecosystems.
- Strong programming capabilities with the ability to build test fixtures, debug CI failures, and write highly readable test code.
- Deep systems thinking skills, demonstrating an understanding of clients, APIs, operating systems, and when to utilize mocks versus physical devices.
- Sharp investigative abilities to transform vague defect reports into easily reproducible bugs.
- A product-focused mindset that prioritizes user trust, accessibility, and responsiveness.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with a track record of coaching teams in fast-paced environments.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience testing native desktop/mobile applications or audio systems.
- Familiarity with speech recognition technologies or evaluating AI-generated outputs.
Benefits
- Competitive equity packages.
- Immigration sponsorship available for H1B, O1, EB1, L1, and STEM OPT candidates.
- A collaborative, talent-dense work culture that values diverse perspectives and rapid testing.
- Commitment to a fair, accessible, and accommodating interview process.
