Reliability and Quality Engineering Expert

AfterQuery

Job Description

  • Work Policy: Remote, open globally
  • Job Type: Contract (independent contractor, ongoing project-based work)
  • Salary Range: $115 per hour, paid weekly through Stripe
  • Experience Level: 3+ years of full-time experience in a reliability, quality, process, or test role
  • Hours: Fully asynchronous with no fixed schedule; minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum

About the Role

AfterQuery is looking for reliability and quality engineers to contribute expert knowledge to AI training work. This is independent contractor project work, not a salaried or full-time position. You’ll write engineering analysis problems from your own professional experience and solve them in full, and frontier AI labs use your reference answers to evaluate how well their models handle engineering judgment.

The work stays within your specialty and is judged on engineering judgment rather than output volume. The company says it does not monitor work through screen recording, keystroke tracking, or idle timers. It also states that it is not looking for site reliability engineers or software engineers.

What You’ll Do

  • Write realistic engineering analysis problems based on your own professional work
  • Cover three areas: designed experiments, statistical process control, and reliability and failure data
  • Solve each problem completely and produce a reference answer that frontier AI labs use to evaluate model judgment

What You’ll Need

  • A degree in engineering, physics, or statistics
  • At least 3 years of full-time experience in a reliability, quality, process, or test role (internships and academic work do not count)
  • Hands-on experience with design of experiments, statistical process control, or reliability analysis
  • Regular use of statistics in your work
  • Proficiency with Minitab, JMP, Python, or R
  • Strong written English and the ability to explain an analysis clearly
  • Availability of at least 10 hours per week

Why Apply

  • The work stays within your specialty and is evaluated on engineering judgment rather than output volume
  • Flexible scheduling, with the ability to scale hours up or down each week
  • Weekly pay through Stripe
  • Your judgment helps shape how future AI systems handle engineering analysis
