This Senior Software Engineer role sits on Upstart’s Servicing Engineering team, which is building a modern loan servicing platform aimed at smoother loan management, better collections, and stronger customer relationships. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to spot opportunities for improvement, automate repetitive manual work, and roll out scalable solutions, helping the team’s servicing partners spend more time on high-value work instead of busywork.

About the Team

The Servicing Engineering team’s core focus is building a best-in-class loan servicing platform, layering in business process automation, boosting efficiency, and creating a genuinely intuitive experience for both borrowers and internal teams. By optimizing workflows, connecting systems, and applying the right technology, the team frees up servicing partners to focus on higher-value work and deliver better customer service, all while continuously improving servicing capabilities to keep pace with growth.

What You’ll Do

• Work closely with cross-functional partners to find opportunities for improvement, automate repetitive tasks, and build scalable solutions for loan servicing.
• Turn team-specific projects into opportunities to level up both the team and the broader technology platform.
• Help build out the engineering team and shape Upstart into a genuinely great place to work.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years building backend applications in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented programming language.
