About the Role

The Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) takes dedicated ownership of the testing lifecycle for specific product specifications. Operating within the overarching quality function rather than being siloed in a single development team, you will shape testable acceptance criteria, author comprehensive test plans, and perform both manual and automated testing. Your core objective is to ensure that software changes are fully verified before shipping, significantly reducing the volume of defects that escape into production environments.

What You’ll Do

You will guide feature testing from initial refinement through final validation, treating every production defect as a signal for upstream prevention.

  • Assume quality ownership for assigned specifications, managing the testing process from backlog refinement through successful validation.
  • Partner with developers, designers, product managers, and architects to clarify requirements and shape highly testable acceptance criteria before building begins.
  • Author, execute, and continually update detailed test plans based on acceptance criteria.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated API and UI tests utilizing shared automation frameworks to expand coverage without duplicating cross-team efforts.
  • Execute exploratory, regression, and functional manual testing for scenarios where automation is either not feasible or pending.
  • Identify, log, and actively track software defects, partnering with development teams to ensure complete resolution.
  • Drive down escaped defects by contributing to root-cause analyses and translating those findings into preventative measures.
  • Provide clear visibility into defect status, test coverage, and overall risk to support independent release-readiness decisions.

What You’ll Need

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance, ideally working with enterprise-level applications.
  • Proficiency using automated UI testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium, including foundational scripting capabilities.
  • Experience validating backend services using REST Assured, Postman, or comparable API tools.
  • A strong background in authoring test plans, writing test cases, and manually validating new features.
  • Experience utilizing Visual Studio, Git, and Azure DevOps.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated test scripts into build processes.
  • Strong relational database and SQL knowledge, with a preference for Azure SQL.
  • Practical experience operating within an Agile/Scrum environment, comfortable with engineering managers acting as player/coaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A detail-oriented, highly organized mindset capable of thriving amidst ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits

  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid Volunteer Time Off (VTO).
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
  • Life and AD&D Insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Healthcare Savings Account (HSA).
  • Wellness Benefits and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan featuring a discretionary match.
  • Study Leave and opportunities for continued professional growth and development.
