Climavision is hiring a Junior Software Engineer to work across its full stack — building and running both the backend services and APIs that carry weather data from its observation network and forecast models out to customers, and the web interfaces that make that data usable internally. This role is built for someone early in their career: you’ll start with well-scoped features and bug fixes inside existing systems, working closely with senior engineers through code review, and gradually take on bigger pieces of the platform. The team cares more about how you think, test, and communicate than how many years are on your resume.

Climavision is rebuilding weather technology from scratch, combining its own high-resolution weather radar and satellite network with advanced forecasting models and decades of industry know-how to close existing coverage gaps and sharply improve forecast accuracy. The company is backed by The Rise Fund, the world’s largest global impact investing platform, and is headquartered in Louisville, KY, with an R&D team based in Raleigh, NC.
What You’ll Do
- Build well-scoped features, API endpoints, bug fixes, and user-facing interfaces across the backend services and web front end, following existing codebase patterns.
- Write both fast unit tests and integration tests that exercise real dependencies, reproducing bugs with a failing test before fixing them.
- Take part in code review, first as the author and eventually as a reviewer — expect thorough, constructive feedback starting with your very first pull request.
- Work directly with relational databases: writing queries, modeling data, and authoring schema migrations.
- Add and improve monitoring — structured logging, metrics, health checks, and traces — so production issues are diagnosable rather than mysterious.
- Use AI coding assistants like Claude Code and Codex as part of your everyday workflow, and help refine the shared rules, skills, and agent configurations kept in source control.
- Build and extend the Blazor-based web interfaces and dashboards that make platform behavior visible across the company.
- Help operate what you build, working with containers, deployment pipelines, and Kubernetes configuration alongside the team.
- Write clear pull request descriptions, explain your reasoning in code comments where useful, and keep documentation current as things change.
What You’ll Need
- Up to 2 years of professional software engineering experience — recent grads, bootcamp grads, and career changers with strong fundamentals are encouraged to apply.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience through internships, personal projects, open-source work, or an adjacent technical role.
- Working knowledge of at least one modern language (C#, Java, Python, Go, or C++), with interest in working primarily in C# and .NET; prior Blazor or front-end experience isn’t required, just willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database fundamentals.
- Familiarity with Git and pull-request-based workflows in GitHub.
- Genuine interest in working with AI coding tools like Claude and Codex, which are part of the team’s daily workflow.
- Ability to break problems into manageable pieces, ask good questions, and communicate clearly when stuck.
- Strong written communication, since much of the team’s collaboration happens asynchronously in writing.
- Curiosity about the bigger picture around your code — where data comes from, where it goes, and what happens when things break.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to C# and .NET, particularly ASP.NET Core.
- Experience building Claude Code extensions like skills, subagents, hooks, slash commands, or MCP servers.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as xUnit, including integration testing with tools like Testcontainers.
- Familiarity with Docker and basic Kubernetes concepts (manifests, logs, readiness probes).
- Exposure to a public cloud platform, ideally Azure (Blob Storage, Service Bus, Event Grid).
- Familiarity with message- or event-driven systems such as queues, pub/sub, MQTT, or streams.
- Understanding of distributed systems concepts like retries, partial failures, and eventual consistency.
- Exposure to a component-based UI framework such as Blazor, React, Vue, or Angular.
- Familiarity with observability tools like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Some Python experience, particularly for data processing or small services.
- Exposure to CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Experience working in a startup or other fast-moving environment.
