Remote is hiring a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with customers, building and shipping AI-powered solutions that connect Remote’s platform into customer systems and workflows. You’ll take messy, real-world requirements and turn them into production-ready integrations, automations, and agentic workflows, then feed what you learn in the field back into reusable patterns the rest of the product team can build on.

What You’ll Do

• Work directly with customers to understand their operational challenges, constraints, and what success actually looks like, running structured technical discovery to define a clear ‘done.’
• Turn open-ended, ambiguous problems into concrete technical designs — architecture, data flows, integration points, security considerations, and a rollout plan.
• Build AI-powered solutions that connect into customer systems and Remote’s own platform — things like data pipelines, workflow automations, tool integrations, and agentic services that actually complete real tasks end to end.
• Own what you deploy, including reliability, performance, observability, incident response, and ongoing improvements.
• Build ways to evaluate and measure AI behavior — success metrics, test harnesses, golden datasets, regression tests, and safety/quality guardrails.
• Use real data to check your work, measure impact, and iterate quickly based on evidence rather than guesswork.
• Work closely with Product and Engineering to ship high-quality solutions and push reusable pieces back upstream into the core product.
• Turn one-off customer solutions into repeatable playbooks, reference architectures, templates, and internal tooling other engineers can use.
• Act as the voice of the field — bringing back concrete customer needs, edge cases, and constraints that should shape where the product goes next.

What You’ll Need

• A track record of shipping production software (backend or full-stack) and owning it once it’s live — comfortable with on-call, debugging, and instrumentation.
• Strong systems and integration thinking: APIs, event-driven systems, webhooks, auth (OAuth, service accounts), data modeling, idempotency, and how things fail.
• Real applied AI/LLM experience beyond side projects — prompt and tool design, RAG and retrieval patterns, evaluation methods, and balancing latency, cost, and reliability.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity, going from a rough problem statement to a shipped solution without a lot of hand-holding.
• Clear, structured written communication, with the ability to explain trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

• Experience working within enterprise environments — security reviews, compliance constraints, procurement, change management.
• Background building with agent frameworks or workflow orchestration systems.
• Familiarity with HRIS, payroll, identity/access management, or similar enterprise domains.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, role-based access control, and privacy-by-design principles.

Practicals

You’ll be part of the Remote Build / Customer Engineering team, working fully remote with the ability to overlap with customer working hours as needed. Expect roughly 10% travel for in-person customer engagements.
