I had a feeling that my Vitamix blades were not sharp enough after many years of usage.
Interestingly, I found I actually don't need to sharpen the blades on your Vitamix! They're designed differently than most blender blades.
Vitamix blades are blunt ("hammermill" style) and rely on the machine's powerful motor to pulverize ingredients instead of slicing them. This design means they stay sharp for a very long time.
If you feel like your blends aren't quite as smooth as they used to be, there's a good chance it's not a dull blade. It could be something else with the machine. Instead of sharpening, I'd recommend contacting Vitamix customer service https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/customer-service/contact-us . They can help you troubleshoot the issue and get your Vitamix blending like new again.
But for me I am type of person who wants to do everything by myself so heres what i did to sharpen my Vitamix blades, I followed these steps:
- Unplug the Blender: Safety first.
- Remove the Blades: I took off the container and unscrewed the blade assembly.
- Clean the Blades: I washed them with warm, soapy water.
- Sharpen the Blades: Using a diamond-coated sharpening tool, I carefully sharpened each blade at a 20-degree angle.
- Reassemble and Test: After rinsing and drying the blades, I reassembled them and did a test run with water and dish soap.
By doing this, my Vitamix blades were sharp and ready for use.
