One of my favorite things about DIY projects is turning everyday items into something magical. When I stumbled across a video showing how to make a doll using plastic spoons, cardboard, and a hairband for a dress, I knew I had to give it a try. It turned out to be a fun and creative way to repurpose household items into a unique craft piece!
Let me share with you how I made this charming doll step by step.
Materials You’ll Need
- Plastic spoons (3-4)
- A sturdy piece of cardboard
- A wide hairband (for the dress)
- Paints and brushes (acrylic or fabric paint work best)
- Glue gun or strong craft glue
- Scissors or a cutter
- Decorative materials like ribbons, glitter, or beads

Step 1: Make the Doll’s Base
I started by cutting out a circular piece of cardboard for the doll’s base. This serves as the foundation to attach all the parts. Next, I glued two plastic spoons together—one for the body and one for the head. This gave the doll a sleek and balanced structure.
Step 2: Add the Dress with a Hairband
The fun part was creating the doll’s dress using a hairband! I chose a soft, colorful band with a ruffled texture that mimicked a flowing gown. To attach it, I stretched the hairband over the spoons and glued it securely in place, adjusting the folds to create a stylish look. You can use a wide variety of hairbands to achieve different designs!
Step 3: Paint and Decorate
Once the structure was set, it was time to bring the doll to life with paint. I carefully painted the face on the rounded part of the spoon, adding eyes, lips, and a touch of blush. I painted the body of the spoon to complement the dress color and let it dry.
For the finishing touches, I added beads as accessories and glued a small ribbon at the waist to define the dress shape.
Step 4: Attach to the Base
To complete the craft, I glued the doll onto the cardboard base. This gave it stability and made it easier to display. I also added some extra decorations to the base, like small glitter accents, to make it shine.
Why I Loved This Project
This DIY doll was simple to make and such a fun way to recycle materials like plastic spoons and cardboard. The hairband dress added a unique flair, making the doll look elegant and stylish. You can experiment with different hairband colors and textures to create your own designs!
